Introducing Your Child to Coding and Robotics

You do not need to be technical to spark an interest in technology.

Coding and robotics teach children to break problems into steps, test ideas and keep going when something does not work. Those habits help in every subject, not just technology.

Ways to start

  • Play logic and sequencing games, such as giving step by step directions to move a toy across the room.
  • Try free beginner coding sites that use drag and drop blocks.
  • Build things together with whatever you have at home, then talk about what you would change.
  • Celebrate "bugs". Finding what went wrong is a real part of the process.

Young children can start with patterns and simple logic. Older children can move on to writing short programs and controlling robots.

A guided, hands on lab with an instructor and a small group of other children is a great way to keep that curiosity growing.
